Unit 6: Developing Multimedia Products

Investigating Existing Multimedia Presentations in London Museum Docklands

We had a visit to the museum and collected some information about multimedia presentations within the museum.

I looked at two presentations.

1. The DLR game. The kiosk was freestanding, it had a screen, three buttons and a speaker.

2. The content of the kiosk was a kind of game. You had to be the Passenger Service Agent travelling from Bank to Lewisham. Along the way the train stopped and there was an alert. One of the alerts showed two boys jumping up and down on the tracks. You had to decide what to do by pressing either button A to not stop and keep going or B stop and call the police. There were three other alerts to deal with until you reached Lewisham at the end of the track,

The media used to get across the information on this presentation was: video, text, animation and graphics.

This is what I thought of the game.

I thought it was bad. Also the members of the public looking at the kiosk only spent a couple of minutes on the game and did not complete it. It did not seem to engage their attention. The game was really for smaller children.
