I was asked by my teacher to watch all the animations then choose at least two and discribe the animation used.
Below are the list of the short-listed Oscar nominations

1) A Single Life film animator was produced by Joris Oprins

2) The Bigger Picture film animator was produced by Daisy Jacobs and Christopher Hees

3) The Dam Keeper film animator was produced by Robert Kondo and Dice Tsutsumi

4) Feast film animator was produced by Patrick Osborne and Kristina Reed

5) Me and My Moulton film animator was produced by Torill Kove

A Single Life, by Joris Oprins
This animation is about a women's single life. The character travels through time revisiting various stages of her life through a record player.
She is trying to do something (eat the pizza) and we see her in different stages of her life. At the end of the short film the lady died.
The style and technique is professional and looks like it is done by using a 3D computer programme.
I like this style of animation.

Feast, by Patrick Osborne and Kristina Reed

This animation is about a dog who like to eat. But he eats lots of rubbish like chips that the owner gives him. When the owner meets a new woman that is a health freak, the dog is given things like salads to eat which he hates. At the end he befriends a baby and then eats up lots of food the baby drops so he is happy again.
Wikipedia says the style and technique used to make this film was a combination of hand-drawn and computer generated 3D animation.

Animation Devices

 Zoetrope

Pre film animation a zoetrope is one of several Pre film animation devices that produce the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs showing progressive phases of that motion. My teacher brought a battery operated zoetrope in class room. It's got nine figures and is made by plastic and paper.

Thaumatrope

Thaumatrope is a toy and it was popular in the 19th century. Thaumatrope is a toy that was popular in the 19th century. A disk with a picture on each side is attached to two pieces of string.

Flip Book

A flip book is a collection of combined pictures intended to be flipped over to give the illusion of movement and create an animated sequence from a simple small book without machine.

Phenakistoscope

It is a device that was invented in 1832 for animation purposes. Basically what you've got is two wheels with sequences of animations around it, kind of like a flip book. It was mounted in front of a mirror. They would then be spun rotating on the same axis, where the image would be viewed through some cuts or slits in the wheel.

Magic Lantern

A simple form of image projector used for showing photographic slides. It was developed in the 17th century and commonly used for educational and entertainment purposes.
